Sign Glossary

Redwood
Redwood is a soft reddish wood which comes from sequoia trees. It is regarded as a highly durable wood and valued for its strength and wood working qualities. Due to the straight-grain of Redwood, it is resistant to weather related deterioration.

Cedar
Cedar is a durable, scented wood which are native to the Himalayas and the Mediterranean Region. Cedar is known to be a natural repellent to moths and is popular for it's attractive grain.

Mahogany
Mahogany is a valuable hardwood which originated from the West Indies. Different mahoganies vary in color from golden to deep red brown, most are closed-grained and resistant to termites.

High Density Urethane (aka HDU, SignFoam, Corafoam, Precision Board)
This material is perfect for signmaking. It is a synthetic material that is lightweight yet remarkably strong. It is unaffected by temperature, waterproof, rot-resistant, termite-resistant and easily machined.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
PVC is a plastic based material that is water-resistant, vandal-resistant, and extremely durable.

Carved Signs
Copy is engraved into the sign and the background is raised.

Sandblasted Signs
A mixture of sand and air pressure is used to leave behind precise letters and graphics raised, while the background has a pebble effect or a simulated wood grain effect.

GrainFraim
A sandblasting technique which will make an HDU sign look like it is wood with a simulated grain.
